Doctors remove live cockroach from woman’s skull

Doctors discovered a live cockroach inside an Indian woman's skull.

AN Indian woman has endured a horrifying 12 hours after a cockroach crawled up her nose and into her skull.
According to The New Indian Express, Selvi, a 42-year-old Chennai domestic worker was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday after she felt “strange” sensations around her nose and eyes.
At first she brushed the feeling off, assuming she might be catching a cold, the Times of India reported. But she soon felt something move.
Selvi spent the rest of the night in discomfort and admitted herself to hospital the following morning.
She told doctors a cockroach had crept into her nostril and climbed up her nose and she couldn’t get it out.
The results of her nasal endoscopy showed the cockroach between the woman’s eyes on her skull.

Dr Shankar of the Stanley Medical College Hospital told The New Indian Express it was the “first such case I have seen in my three decades of practice”.
Selvi reportedly suffered pain and burning sensations.
“I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect,” she told local media.
“There was a tingling, crawling sensation.
“Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes.
“I spent the entire night in discomfort, sitting up and waiting for dawn to go to Stanley hospital after getting the reference of a doctor from my employer.”

The Times of India reported that the bug clung to the tissues as he tried to vacuum it out with a suction apparatuses.
“It was alive,” Dr Shankar said.
“And it didn’t seem to want to come out.
“We had to use a combination of suction and forceps to finally pull it out.”
The live cockroach finally came out from the abyss after 12 hours in Selvi’s skull.
